Time's Up
So I've been on winter break the past few weeks, but I'm back with some amazing news. Maybe you've heard of the Time's Up movement. Maybe you haven't. But it is super cool, and I am absolutely thrilled.
Here's the whole article on the thing, but I'm going to sum it up here. Basically, with the #metoo movement, a bunch of women (Like, 300 of them) have created a group called Time's Up. (Here's their website) The group is committed to stopping sexual harassment and assault in all places, not just Hollywood.
This is a direct quote from their website, explaining their legal fund. They support another movement called 50/50 by 2020, to have equal representation in the media. They support LBT+ (if I got that wrong, let me know so I can fix it) women and women of color, and call for their representation as well.
One of my favorite things they're doing, though, that's coming up really soon, is wearing black at the Golden Globes on Sunday to raise awareness. Actress Eva Longoria said:
Fam, this movement is incredible. I can't wait to see what they do. On Friday, my friends and I are going to wear black to school, to participate in the way we can. If you'd like, I'd be so happy if you would do the same. Because these celebrity women are important. But when we join them... "[then] the world will know." (It's been a while since I've used a good musical quote. Go listen to the whole song. I tried to find a single quote beyond the title but the whole thing is amazing.)

"TIME'S UP Legal Defense Fund will provide subsidized legal support to women and men who have experienced sexual harassment, assault, or abuse in the workplace and while in pursuit of their careers."

"This is a moment of solidarity, not a fashion moment. For years, we've sold these award shows as women, with our gowns and colors and our beautiful faces and our glamour. This time the industry can't expect us to go up and twirl around. That's not what this moment is about."Wow. I read that quote this morning and it's still resonating with me. That's incredible. I might watch them, just to see that, and I never watch award shows. But... wow. I have no words.
