5 Reasons Not to Support Roy Moore (Other Than the Sexual Harassment Claims)
We've all read extensive coverage about Roy Moore. We've all seen the allegations from nine women that he molested them as teenagers (read: CHILDREN). And this is... staggering. I'm going to be shook if he wins Tuesday's election. Then again, look at the White House...
Anyhow, while these allegations are hugely important, momentous, they're not even the only thing Moore has going against him. I did some research this weekend and found some pretty unbelievable things he's said in the past. I want to make it absolutely clear that I'm not trying to diminish in any way the sexual harassment allegations against him. These alone should have been the end for his campaign. But I feel like more people need to know about the other things he's said-- not instead of, but in addition to, the fact that he's a child molester. I don't know if this will influence anyone who can vote in this election. I don't even know if this will reach anyone who can vote in this election. But I need to put this out there.
1- He argued in 1997 that drive-by shootings were caused by students being taught evolution in school. (source)
Yeah. This happened. He argued to because we teach students in school that we're descended from animals, they start acting like animals (although, fun fact, most species of animals avoid killing their own kind if they can. "Even a rattlesnake, that will kill a human without hesitation, will avoid killing another rattlesnake where possible."). And because they start acting like animals, they go and shoot random people, according to Moore.
And the sad thing is that this is only the beginning.
2- He has said on numerous occasions that homosexuality should be illegal. (source)
Moore was suspended from the Alabama supreme court for refusing to uphold the federal supreme court decision legalizing same-sex marriage in all fifty states. He also said the Obergefell v. Hodges case was worse than the Dred Scott decision, which ruled that black people were property.
3- He also said America was last "great" in the time of slavery. (source)
"I think it was great at the time when families were united — even though we had slavery — they cared for one another…. Our families were strong, our country had a direction." It's worth noting, too, that this was in response to a question from a black audience member.
4- He said that a Muslim man should not be allowed to serve in the House of Representatives. (Source)
Moore claimed that the principles of Representative Keith Ellison's faith were in direct opposition to the constitution, and if he was allowed to be sworn in on the Quran, it would be tantamount to allowing someone to be sworn in on "Mein Kampf."
5- He used ethnic slurs in referring to Asian-Americans and Native Americans. (Source)
I don't even want to type this one, but the link has information. It's disgusting.
This is a partial list of the terrible things Roy Moore has said, not even counting the fact that he molested children. So even if somehow, the nine accusers don't faze you (and they should), then maybe one of these will convince you. If you will be voting in Tuesday's election, I beg you not to vote for this man.
